Common Questions & Answers:

1.  Do ACT students have homework?
Yes.  Students will have ACT homework from every ACT class.  This will include logic, analogies, and/or student projects.
2.  What should my child bring to ACT class?
Students are expected to bring their ACT Folder, a pencil, homework planner, and completed homework to every ACT class.
3.  Will my child receive a grade for ACT class?
Students do not receive a letter-grade on their report card from ACT class.  However, students will take home a portfolio at the end of each marking period which is a collection of work and projects.  In addition, students will reflect on this work and assess their own progress at the conclusion of the marking period.  Projects in ACT are student-centered, cooperative, and utilize high-order thinking skills, therefore this portfolio and assessment will give you a better understanding of their true progress than a letter-grade.
4.  Will my child be screened and tested at the end of each school year?
No.  The nomination and screening process is very rigorous and time-consuming therefore students will continue in ACT the following year.  However, ACT students are expected to maintain Honor Roll status each marking period.  If a student earns a "C" in a subject, he/she will be put on probation the following marking period and expected to increase their grades to Honor Roll status.

5.  If I am a new student in the district and was in another District's Gifted program, will I be enrolled in the Mansfield's Gifted Education program?
If you are transferring into the district, your child must meet our district's criteria for placement into the program.  Please refer to the parent nomination packet on the site to begin the screening process.
