For the 2020-2021 school year the BSI model may have slight modifications from what is outlined below. All information for students receiving services will be shared in the invitations that will sent around Mid-September.
In both of our schools, we provide additional services for students who demonstrate challenges in mathematics or reading. We employ basic skills teachers who provide additional support in the areas of literacy and mathematics. These teachers may work in a “push-in” model in your child’s classroom, or in a “pull-out” model to provide more individualized support. Our Basic Skills Program utilizes researched-supported models and resources.
If your child is identified to receive Basic Skills Intervention (BSI) services, you will receive an informational letter from the basic skills teacher sharing an overview of the program and pertinent contact information. Please see a brief description of the interventions currently being used within our district.
- Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI)- small group, supplementary literacy intervention is designed to provide supplementary literacy instruction in the areas of comprehension, vocabulary development, fluency, phonics, word study, and writing about reading.
- Reading Recovery- Reading Recovery is a short-term intervention for first graders having extreme difficulty with early reading and writing. Specially trained teachers work individually with students in daily 30-minute lessons lasting 12 to 20 weeks.
- Wilson Fundations 2, 3 & Just Words- (grades 2-6) multisensory, structured, systemic, and cumulative program that provides instruction in decoding, handwriting, and spelling. During daily instruction, phonemic awareness, phonics, spelling, word recognition, and vocabulary will be learned at an accelerated pace. Students will examine, manipulate, and categorize words while focusing their attention on the critical features of words: sounds, spelling, and meaning.
- Math- utilizing the I-Ready online diagnostic and instruction program, students will receive small group targeted instruction based on individual needs as well as online lessons featuring instruction appropriate to their instructional level.
